Local musician Anthony Cekay (composer of The Spectacular War Museum) has founded a new website with Leighanne Saltsman called Page4Music. Page4Music is dedicated to fostering discourse within the music industry and features fantastic podcasts on a range of music-related topics.  Check out the podcast with Emmy-winning local trombonist J. • Shark Bites A new take on the holidays: Lily Sparks' "Bright Christmas"

Somewhere where Skeptical and Surly meet, you can find my December “seasonal spirit”. Cold winds, dark days, and the tinsel-deep repetition of glazed tradition hammer me into a brittle brassy hrmphingness. ABOUT LICNotes

WE'RE ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC

If you're a musician, booker, promoter or music fan the neighborhood of Long Island City in Queens is an exciting place to be. It's exciting because it's on the edge of something; it hasn't entirely happened yet. For those with a stout heart, strong stomach and pioneering spirit this is the opportunity of a lifetime. It ain't exactly Williamsburg, but that's the beauty of it.

Performance spaces are slowly starting to bloom around the neighborhood. Musicians have taken matters into their own hands creating makeshift shows and grassroots festivals. Bit by bit, show after show, a certain "LIC sound" has started to emerge regardless of the genre of music. It's more than a sound, in fact, it is a vibe – a vibe that is unabashedly welcoming and willing to connect with an audience.

That's why we created LICNotes. The LIC music scene has been naked without a real online presence for some time now and with your support, help, and passion that's going to change big time. We're going to need you – the musicians, venues, bloggers, fans, and lovers of LIC Music.

This is your neighborhood. This is your music. This is YOUR website.
