Every week I get calls, texts, emails..."Is there anything happening in LIC tonight?"
"Hey, is there anywhere we can see some live music?"
"It's Friday. There's no shows I can check out?!"
"How come I always hear about this cool stuff after the fact?"
"Who do I have to talk to get a show for my band?"I'm really excited to tell everyone that they can now stop bothering me with these silly questions. Or better yet I can respond to them all with the same answer:
"GO TO LICNOTES.COM"If you're a musician, booker, promoter or music fan the Long Island City neighborhood is an exciting place to be. It's exciting because it's on the edge of something; it hasn't entirely happened yet. For those with a stout heart, strong stomach and pioneering spirit this is the opportunity of a lifetime. It ain't exactly Williamsburg, but that's the beauty of it.
Performance spaces are slowly starting to bloom around the neighborhood. Musicians have taken matters into their own hands creating makeshift shows and grassroots festivals. Bit by bit, show after show, a certain "LIC sound" has started to emerge regardless of the genre of music. It's more than a sound, in fact, it is a vibe--a vibe that is unabashedly welcoming and willing to connect with an audience.
That's why me and my friend Tom Tancredi teamed up to create this website. The LIC music scene has been naked without a real online presence for some time now and with your support, help, and passion that's gonna change big time. We're gonna need you--the musicians, venues, bloggers, fans, and lovers of LIC Music.
This is your neighborhood. This is your music. This is YOUR website.
Interact. Sound off. Post events. Watch video. Comment on blogs and reviews. Tip us off about your own band or your favorite local bands. Promote your gigs or your venue's gigs. Discover new music and places to see it right here in your own neighborhood. And do it all with a crazed passion and love for this great place in which we live.
Que Viva La Musica!
Your Friend,
Silbin Sandovar
